FAQ
What is pterodactyl?
Pterodactyl is an open source software providing instances to run game servers (based on docker) originally. But this software can also be used running other applications based on python, nodejs etc. More info at: https://pterodactyl.io/
Is pterodactyl free?
Yes. If you choose one of plenty free hosting services that offer free discord bot hosting on a pterodactyl panel. Most of these offer a free, limited plan to host an application. Example Hosts: https://panel.germanhub.xyz/ (Requires account setup in the linked discord Server, ran by me as owner), https://www.pylexnodes.net/, https://daki.cc/ Or you can set up the panel yourself (instructions on https://pterodactyl.io/), then the hosting is not free as you have to purchase some sort of vps to run this on, domain etc. If you choose to do that I recommend purchasing a vps and host the bot on that vps locally if you don´t want to host more than that. Local hosting guide: https://docs.modmail.dev/installation/local-hosting-vps
Is pterodactyl secure?
That depends on the hosting provider itself. The panel is secure but as free hosts want to earn some money / revenue they may track user statistics or sell your data etc. Be sure you make your own opinion on the host you are choosing.
I am hosting a pterodactyl panel, how can I make python servers?
You need to add an egg that can run python applications. For example it can be https://github.com/parkervcp/eggs/tree/master/generic/python
Can I also host the logviewer with pterodactyl?
Maybe it is possible, however I haven´t found a good solution.
